Dale Earnhardt Jr. vs. Danica Patrick… 2012 Comparison of the Over-rateds

I just decided I’m gonna continue my comparison of Dale Jr. and Danica Patrick for the entirety of the 2012 season.

Some have told me  it’s an unfair comparison. That’s pretty accurate… to a point.

First of all, Dale has a lot more stock car experience than Danica. But he’s competing, full time, for the championship in the Sprint Cup series, which is the top tier of NASCAR. Danica, on the other hand, is competing, full time, for the championship in the Nationwide series;  the next step down in NASCAR. That sort of evens things up in my comparison.

I’ll throw in a third driver to maybe provide more perspective… or just to allow me to look at even more numbers. That driver is Austin Dillon. He’s a 19 year old rookie competing with Danica for the Nationwide series title.

In an effort to keep things simple, I’ll only use six statistics: Starts, wins, top fives, top tens, average starts and average finishes.

So here goes, after two races:

Dale Jr:

Starts Wins Top 5 Top 10 Avg. Start Avg. Finish
2 0 1 1 17 8

Danica:

Starts Wins Top 5 Top 10 Avg. Start Avg. Finish
2 0 0 0 22 23

Austin:

Starts Wins Top 5 Top 10 Avg. Start Avg. Finish
2 0 2 2 7 4.5

So far….. Austin’s the man!
