This past weekend’s
circle tri-oval track racing took place at Daytona International Speedway. I’ve been there!
For the Nationwide Series race my dude, Austin Dillon, took the pole position in qualifying! After said qualifying, his car failed inspection because the team got caught cheating again. There was an open cooling duct found under the cockpit (this helps improve the car’s aerodynamics), so Austin had to start from the back. Starting at the rear is not a huge deal at Daytona. If one has a good car, they can make it back up front, as Austin did. He led a few times and ended up finishing fourth… crossing the finish line while spinning in a last turn wreck. We’ll have to wait and see what penalties he receives for cheating.
Danica… oh Danica! After qualifying third, she had a fantastic race car all night and ran really well. There was a point on Friday night that I stopped thinking about her ass and thought she had a chance to win a race. Seriously… she was THAT GOOD! She led on five different occasions for a total of fourteen laps. The only driver who led more laps than Danica was the eventual winner, Kurt Busch. However, Danica got caught up in a crash with eighteen laps to go… and dear God does she crash terribly. It’s like she doesn’t know what to do with the car when it gets out of shape, so she just drives it hard into the nearest wall.
I truly feel bad for her. She had a great car and a great chance to win the race… but shit happens. She ended up with a 31st place finish…
KURT BUSCH WON! I’m happy for the guy. He loses jobs and sponsors like crazy because he attacks reporters and can’t control his emotions. Because of his outbursts the last several months, he had no sponsor on Friday night’s car. You can just Google Kurt Bush to follow his downward spiral (believe it or not, Jerry Springer was actually considering sponsoring Kurt ~ he’s just that crazy!), but I don’t have time to chronicle it here. Anyway, here’s Friday’s winner:
Yeah… he won with a beat up car, too!
As for Saturday’s Sprint Cup race… it was a huge wreck fest. Every wreck took out more and more of the field. Dale Jr. got caught up in the last lap crash to finish fifteenth. Tony Stewart emerged the winner after everyone else crashed. He also cheated in qualifying, with the same mystery cooling duct that Austin Dillon’s team used above in his infraction. So Stewart had to start from the back too! Like I said…. everyone else (seemingly) wrecked so he got the win.
Next week, both NASCAR series’ will be racing in Loudon, New Hampshire.
Numbers after week nineteen:
Austin’s car is the one pointing the wrong way!
Danica’s in the white ‘7’ car that is crashing…
As for the NHRA?? I was there Sunday! Seriously! I went with Alexis, my sister Alicia and her boyfriend, Alex. We had a blast! Hope to get that post up soon!
Hug your children and love them every day…
