I prolly don’t need to tell y’all this…. but football is a violent sport, even for teams who play the Browns.
Believe it or not, no major injuries were sustained when future Hall of Fame running back, Trent Richardson, nearly decapitated Eagles free safety, Kurt Coleman.
In an effort to cut down on the number of concussions, hits like that will be flagged and players will be fined. I do sort of agree with that. Leading with the crown of one’s helmet, especially at the head of the other player, is dangerous to both players.
For the 2010 season, the NFL outlawed wedge formations on kickoffs. This is when three, four or even five special teamers would link arms to form a “wall” to block for a kick returner.
The kickoff has always been a violent play. The NFL determined that there are seven injuries for every 100 kickoff plays versus five injuries for every 100 regular plays. So they continue to mess with the kickoff.
For the 2011 season, kickoff rules were changed and teams had to kick from the 35 yard line instead of the 30. Good kickers would just boot it through the endzone, eliminating some returns. Eliminating returns is just stupid!
My buddy at work, Brent, pointed out that kick returns have been the best shot the Browns have at scoring most of the time. He’s right! Check this shit out…

Well… the NFL is clearly attempting to get rid of the entire kickoff part of the game. Scratch that… they’re not attempting it… they’re doing it.
On January 26, 2014, the NFL will run a terrifying experiment in the already unwatchable Pro Bowl. In addition to the elimination of the AFC vs. NFC format, addition of two minute warnings in the 1st and 3rd quarters and change of possession after every quarter, there will be NO KICKOFFS! Teams will begin possession at the 25 yardline…
You are naive to think the league (or maybe the players union) is only considering these changes for the Pro Bowl. This is a test… to remove kickoffs from ALL games. If there is any level of success to how the Pro Bowl is played, the league (or maybe the players union) will begin to work on the team owners to vote kickoffs out of the game.
